East Wing Addition
Mount Nittany Medical Center
State College, PA
The East Wing Addition at Mount Nittany Medical Center will house a new state of the art 12 bed intensive care unit,
14 bed same day surgery suite, cardiac rehabilitation center, executive
offices, a multipurpose conference center and an employee fitness area.
Construction for the new facility began in November of 2002. Completion
is scheduled for January of 2004.
GJAI Consulting Engineers provided all
HVAC, plumbing, electrical, medical gas and site utility design services
for the new addition. The new design includes expansion of the hospital
central high-pressure steam plant and emergency power systems. GJAI’s
design incorporates new building systems with existing systems to provide
a seamless transition for patients and hospital personnel alike.

Emergency Department Renovation
Mount Nittany Medical Center
State College, PA
Project consisted of a 1,500 square foot
building addition and a 4,500 square foot renovation in the existing
emergency department. Renovation to the emergency department began in
October of 2002. Completion is expected in October of 2003.
GJAI Consulting Engineers provided all
HVAC, plumbing, electrical, medical gas, site utility and fire alarm
design services for the department renovation. The design incorporates
a new protective isolation room, expansion of treatment, triage, exam
rooms and laboratory space.
GJAI incorporated a construction
sequence into the systems design to allow the emergency department to
remain in operation throughout construction.

Operating Suite Addition and Renovation
Mount Nittany Medical Center
State College, PA
This project included the addition of
one operating suite and the renovation and expansion of an existing
suite. The project required that one operating suite remain in operation
through the duration of construction.
GJAI Consulting Engineers provided
all HVAC, plumbing, electrical, medical gas and fire protection design
services for the project. The new design incorporates provisions for
emergency power, upgrades to the existing medical gas infrastructure
and energy recovery utilization in the new HVAC system.


Centre Medical Sciences Building
The Pennsylvania State University
State College, PA
The building was originally constructed
as a shell building with mechanical and electrical systems that could
be adapted to various sizes and types of users. As the project construction
progressed, various tenants were added to the building requiring constant
updating of documents and systems. The entire building was designed
using CAD systems allowing simplified integration of changes to the
contract documents to suit tenant fit out.
The 125,000 square foot medical
office building houses various outpatient areas including surgical suites
and a sports medicine physical therapy area. There are numerous physicians’
offices along with radiology and cardio-pulmonary areas and two laboratories.

Cancer Treatment Center Expansion
Morristown Memorial Hospital
Morristown, NJ
This project included a 40,000 square
feet addition and 20,000 square feet of renovation to the existing Carl
G. Simon Cancer Center. The new addition will house medical offices,
chemotherapy treatment rooms, a breast cancer center and a new state
of the art linear accelerator. Construction is expected to start in
June of 2003. Project completion is scheduled for the summer of 2004.
GJAI Consulting Engineers provided
HVAC design services for this project. The new design incorporates extension
of the hospital chilled water and steam systems, additional air-handling
equipment to serve the new addition and process cooling to sensitive
medical equipment in the new linear accelerator vault. The new HVAC
design allowed for existing equipment to be reused providing substantial
first cost savings to the owner.


Building #1 Outpatient Program
Erie VA Medical Center
Erie, PA
This project included a 10,000 square
foot physical therapy department addition and a 10,000 square foot emergency
department and medical office renovation.
GJAI Consulting Engineers provided
all electrical systems design for the project, which included extension
of the facility power distribution system to the new addition and upgrades
of the existing power distribution system to the renovated space. New
modern nurse call and paging systems were designed by GJAI along with
the fire alarm system.


Rehabilitation Hospital Renovation
Health South Altoona Rehabilitation Hospital
Altoona, PA
GJAI provided HVAC, electrical and plumbing
design services for a 21,000 square foot renovation and addition to
the existing rehabilitation hospital. The renovation included a new
gymnasium, hydrotherapy room, therapy rooms, medical offices and a new
therapeutic indoor pool.
